Frequently Asked Questions
What is the purpose of this Website?
The Society's mission includes education, networking and advocacy, and we have
the same goals for our Website. Some things will stay the same from visit to
visit - such as our general information about membership and our publication
page. But there will be lots of new information added each time, so we hope
you will be a regular visitor. By doing so you will be able to learn about our
National Conference and seminars.
How do I navigate the Website?
As on most Websites, you can jump from place to place by clicking on a button
or hypertext link. Hypertext links are recognizable because they are underlined
and are a different color than the rest of the text.
On most pages in our Website you will see a cascading "pull down"
menu on the top of the page. When your cursor rolls over one of the main topics,
a menu appears underneath containing the different choices. Click on your desired
selection. You can always click on "Home Page" to return to the main
page. If you do not see the pull down menu you are probably using an Internet
browser that doesn't run perl scripts. If that is the case you can click on
the link to the "Website Map" on the bottom of the Home Page to navigate
the site.
If you click on a link to another Website, or to an Adobe Acrobat file, the
link will open in a new window. When you are done with the new window you can
close it, and you will be on the original page on our Website.
How do I use the Members Only pages?
In order to make our Website easier to navigate, we have integrated the items
in our Members Only section with the public areas of the Website. All items
are listed together, but members will need their password to access items marked
with a key. If you are a member and have entered your password, you will only
have to enter it once per internet session, and you will then be able to go
freely between the Members Only and the public sections of the site.
How do I obtain a password for the Members Only pages?
There is a link on the Members Only login page that says "Click here if
you forgot your password." If you enter your e-mail address on the following
screen, and your e-mail address is in our database, your password will be automatically
forwarded to you. If your password is not in our database, you can send an e-mail
to webmaster@governanceprofessionals.org with your request.
Why do some pages on the Website have www.nyic.com instead of www.governanceprofessionals.org
in the address box?
The URL www.nyic.com is from the Website of our Website hosting company. On
secure pages (where you enter credit card information) you will see www.nyic.com
since we are using their security certificate to keep the transaction secure.
