The Society Honors Blanca N. Rosbach
With 2007 Bracebridge H. Young Distinguished Service Award

COLORADO SPRINGS — Society Chairman William J. Mostyn III and Society President David W. Smith are pleased to announce that Blanca N. Rosbach, Director of Research and Information Services at the Society's National Office, is this year's recipient of The Bracebridge H. Young Distinguished Service Award. This is the first in its 61-year history that the Society has so honored an active employee.

As Mr. Smith wrote in the award's citation: "Blanca began her career with the Society on Monday, October 14, 1969. In the intervening 38 years, Blanca has seen many changes in the Society and its leadership. She has been instrumental in directing and managing countless improvements in the Society's library, information gathering and research capabilities. She has effortlessly moved from paper and mimeograph to computers, webcasts and the Internet.

"What has really distinguished Blanca over these past 38 years is her dedication to the Society and its members. No research request goes unanswered, and the responses come quickly and are thoughtful, thorough, prompt and cheerfully delivered. Blanca conducts herself in a professional and graceful manner, which is a model for members and colleagues alike. No employee in the history of the Society has a personnel file with more thoughtful, complimentary letters than she.

"Blanca is, in every sense, a role model, exemplifying all that is special about the Society: knowledge, dedication, professionalism, generosity of spirit and time, and that very important quality — grace. To honor Blanca is to honor all that we stand for as an organization."

The Society's Distinguished Service Award was established in 1988 to recognize persons who have rendered unusual or exceptional service, or service rendered over a period of years, that directly further the Society's goals in a significant manner. The award is the Society's highest honor and was renamed the "Bracebridge H. Young Distinguished Service Award" in 1997 to honor Bracebridge Young, one of the five signers of the Society's Certificate of Incorporation when it was formed in 1946. In 1954, Mr. Young became the Society's president, and served the organization for 16 years.
